How To Host A Perfect Teddy Bears' Picnic!

If you go down to the woods today…don’t forget to take a picnic and your Merrythought teddy bear with you!
At Merrythought, we're often asked what makes the perfect teddy bears' picnic – whether it’s ideas for creating something unique, games to keep the little ones entertained, or the best tasty treats to include. Most of all, we believe that the ultimate teddy bears’ picnic is all about weaving magic into the ordinary…And with warmer weather just around the corner, we’ve pulled together our top tips to help you host a memorable picnic outing!

First things first, timing is everything! Ideally, you’ll pick a gorgeous sunny afternoon but with the unpredictable British weather, it’s always worth taking an umbrella and jumper just in case.
The next step is to select a stunning setting – think sun-dappled parks or a charming back garden adorned with flourishing flowers and vibrant greenery.
However you choose to put your picnic together, it's who you share it with that really matters! Once you’ve settled on a time and place, you’ll need to invite your family and friends – and their teddy bears of course!
Now, you’ll need to plan a picturesque setting and envision how you would like your teddy bears’ picnic to look. Perhaps incorporate a theme, such as Alice in Wonderland or Paddington™? No matter what you choose, do make sure you have plenty of large picnic blankets and cosy cushions for your guests. If you’re feeling particularly inspired, why not decorate a nearby tree with some balloons or bunting? (But do make sure to take everything with you when you’re finished!)
On the day of the picnic, you’ll want to prepare and pack a variety of tasty treats that both you and your guests will enjoy. We suggest keeping things traditional with freshly made sandwiches (include a few marmalade ones if Paddington is attending!) and scrumptious cakes – even more delightful if they’re homemade of course! If you’re keen to push the boat out, why not bake some tasty bear-themed biscuits?

To make your picnic especially fun, come prepared with a selection of outdoor entertainment…We recommend bringing some colouring-in sheets for the little ones? You could even print some teddy bear themed pictures off before-hand and include a few colouring crayons in your picnic basket.
For any older children (and maybe grown-ups too!) you could organise a classic teddy bear scavenger hunt, where each participant must search for a bear with their name on. This promises hours of entertainment if you hide them well.

You might even like to include an educational element to your day. Encourage the children to look out for any nearby wildlife and write down all the various animals, birds and insects they encounter. Perhaps you could even offer a prize to the guest who spots the most!
And remember, it’s important to always leave your picnic spot just as you found it and gather everything with you when you head for home…This way, the space will be ready for the next group enjoying a teddy bears’ picnic!
